James & Deborah Hill
It all started with a shared fascination for the beauty hidden beneath the earth's surface. James, a silversmith with over 20 years of experience, and Deborah, a rock enthusiast with a passion for crystals, decided to combine their expertise to create something special.
In October 2015, Crystal Empire Gems opened its doors on Mill Street in Grass Valley. What began as a small shop has grown into a beloved community hub for crystal enthusiasts, collectors, and those seeking the healing power of natural stones.
Our two boys, Azurite and Malachite, are growing up surrounded by the wonder of the natural world. As a family, we're proud members of the Nevada County Gem and Mineral Society, dedicated to fostering appreciation for the enchanting world of gems and minerals.

Where do your crystals come from?
We source our crystals from ethical mines around the world, including Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, and India. We have direct relationships with our suppliers to ensure fair labor practices and environmental responsibility. Every crystal in our shop comes with information about its origin.
How do I know if a crystal is right for me?
Trust your intuition! The crystal that catches your eye or feels warm in your hand is often the one you need. We also offer free consultations to help you choose based on your intentions, whether it's for healing, protection, abundance, or spiritual growth.
Do you offer custom jewelry design?
Yes! Our master silversmith James specializes in creating custom pieces. Bring your vision, and we'll work with you to design something unique. Custom pieces typically take 2-3 weeks and include a free consultation and 3D rendering before crafting.
How do I cleanse my crystals?
There are several methods: moonlight (safest for all crystals), running water (for water-safe stones only), smudging with sage or palo santo, sound cleansing with singing bowls, or placing on a selenite charging plate. We offer free cleansing services in-store and sell cleansing kits.
What is your return policy?
We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on all purchases. If you're not completely happy with your crystal or jewelry, bring it back for a full refund or exchange. Custom pieces can be adjusted or remade if they don't meet your expectations.
Do you host workshops or events?
